| 1. O joyful hope, in weary hearts awaking:
O blessed voice of pardon and release:
Tidings of grace for souls oppressed and aching;
Telling of liberation, life and peace.

2. Long was the night of exiled Israel’s sorrow,
Bitter the hours of suffering and fear,
Till on her darkness dawned the light of morrow,
When prophet lips proclaimed redemption near.
